Granary Buns


1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbsp. butter
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup dark rye flour
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. quick rise dry yeast

Add all ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed. (If not using a bread machine, see below.) When dough setting is complete, divide into 16 pieces and place on greased baking sheets. Let rise an hour or till double in size. Combine water and egg yolks. Brush on top of buns and sprinkle with oats. Bake at 375F for 20-25 minutes. Cool on rack.

2 Tbsp. water
2 egg yolks
rolled oats for sprinkling

Note: if not using a bread machine, warm the milk and water and melt the butter, then combine all ingredients and knead well. Cover, and let sit for an hour. Punch down and form buns. Complete recipe as listed above.
