When I first saw these buns on The Culinary Jumble I thought they might be cream puffs, but found they are a Swedish Shrove Tuesday bun flavoured with cardamom and filled with almond paste and whipped cream! What is not to like? I also added 1/2 tsp. of natural almond flavouring to bring forward the almond flavour.
When I read that the Norwegian version substitutes jam for the almond paste, it set my brain swirling with yums, and thinking it was high time for a Scandinavian wedding… so used both jam AND almond paste in the ones I made 😀. My husband says they taste like Christmas to him, as many of our Danish Christmas treats contain these same flavourings.
