I got the inspiration for this dish from littlethings.com. I reduced the onion by half, omitted the mushrooms, added salt instead of soy sauce, swapped regular ketchup for spicy, and dried parsley for fresh, but otherwise, the recipe is the same. I have printed my version of it below.
1 onion (cut in half, peel off three layers of outer skin to save, dice the rest
1 lb. ground beef
handful of dried parsley
1Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. ketchup
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
1 package bacon
BBQ sauce to glaze with
Mix the meatballs using the above and place two halves of the onion layer around the meatball to enclose it. Wrap each ball with three slices of bacon, securing them with toothpicks.
Bake in preheated 425 degree F oven for 40 minutes. Glaze with BBQ sauce and return to oven for another 5-10 minutes.
