This adaptation of Hardy’s novel starring Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Michael Sheen is another beautifully made movie by Thomas Vinterberg. It is a story of changes of circumstance and how various characters adapt, exploring fortitude, love and self discovery. The cinematography is simple and beautiful – classic Vinterberg. I love seeing these classic novels onscreen because I really enjoy the costumes and setting and viewing someone else’s vision of the story.
