I haven’t done a book recommendation in a while. This one is not a specific book, but a whole bunch of books written under the name James Herriot, highlighting the career of a vet in Yorkshire in the 1930-50’s primarily. I love the humour and the facility with the English language, including local accents, the characters he brings to life as he treats their animals, and the strong sense of time and place the books evoke. These books are my “feel good” books of choice. They are every bit as much about humanity as the practice of veterinary medicine. As you can see, many of my copies are well-thumbed and I’ve had them long time!
