USS Hornet

DSC05743

This was on my husband’s list of Must See Locations so I gamely went along. I enjoy historical places, and I found the aircraft carrier more interesting than I had imagined; lots of history including two Apollo splashdown recoveries. They have the command module from Apollo 11, as well as the quarantine facility Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin were contained in until it could be determined if they were carrying moon germs.  The Hornet also has the survival kits they were given for splashdown and many other interesting artifacts from the time.

The aircraft carrier was interesting in itself, and having watched the odd trap landing on episodes of JAG, I found it interesting to see older versions of the equipment up close.
