My grandmother hand-stitched this quilt for Canada’s centennial in 1967. Every second weekend, my family used to stay with my grandparents and this was the quilt that was on “my” bed. It was one of the things Grandma gave me when they downsized.
If the maple leaves near the top look strange to you, it is because they are in the shape of the symbol for the centennial, not the flag. Grandma added the wild roses at the top, because you know, it was made in Alberta 🙂 I have always loved how all the squares have something unique that represents each province or territory. Maybe I will have to make a Nunavit pillow to go with it to reflect our new addition. I have been to all of the provinces, with the exception of Newfoundland (now called Newfoundland and Labrador) and the territories. Something to look forward to.

It is pancake season in Calgary as the Stampede starts tomorrow. There are over a hundred free pancake breakfasts around the city.
