The Red Notebook, by French writer Antoine Laurain, could be described as both a quest and as an unusual romance in that the characters do not know each other. The first character we meet immediately loses her purse in a mugging in Paris. A bookshop owner finds the handbag and is determined to find out to whom it belongs. There are very few clues to go on as her wallet and phone have been removed before the bag was abandoned, but as he gathers information he is further intrigued by the bag’s owner. He is determined though and has a bit of luck along the journey…
I loved this one and will likely re-read it again next year.
