YYC Hot Chocolate Fest

One of the highlights of February in Calgary is the annual YYC Hot Chocolate Fest, which is an event to raise funds for Meals on Wheels in Calgary. This year there are over 100 participating cafes, each coming up with a unique hot chocolate entry to try to win the contest. They have an app which shows photos and descriptions of all the entries and an interactive map which will direct you to the café. This is a good way to discover “new to you” cafés and raises money to help Meals on Wheels keep doing what they do best.

This is our second year participating as customers and look forward to it on the Saturdays in February. We choose by what looks best, and is not too far out of our way. This year we have tried a couple so far which were nice hot chocolates but…. look at this entry from Higher Ground!

This year Higher Ground hit the ball out of the stadium for creativity. Their entry was delicious – blackberry-flavoured hot chocolate topped with cinnamon whip, candied bacon and crumbled maple waffle cone. It was like a weekend waffle breakfast with hot chocolate all in one cup. The flavours blended and made a new kind of magic. We went back the next Saturday… Why mess with perfection?
