Nuts and Bolts Variation

July 18, 2017 6:30 am

This is a variation on the original Nuts and Bolt recipe found on cereal boxes in the 70s. We swapped some of the cereals, but the sauce is the same as the one my mom used to make. This makes a great alternative to buttered popcorn if you are watching a movie at home, or as a Bag of Yummy in your pack on a hike.

In a roasting pan, mix together:

4 cups Shreddies cereal
3 cups pretzels
2 cups cheddar fish crackers
3 cups original fish crackers

In a saucepan, melt the butter and combine with the following:

1 cup butter
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoons celery salt

Pour evenly over the cereal mixture, stirring until well distributed.

Bake at 250 degrees F for about an hour. Stir every 15 minutes to keep the bottom ones from burning. Cool.
