Because we moved this summer, I did not plant a vegetable garden for the first time since being a student. It was a jolt to the system, but also a bit of a holiday. I do still enjoy a fresh, local vegetable though, and have frequented farmers’ markets since my time in Waterloo in the late eighties. This year, I discovered that the Saskatoon Farm (just 10 minutes drive from our new home) has a DAILY market where you can fill a bag with beautiful produce for $12.
The surroundings are pretty fantastic too.
Here is my haul this week: potatoes, carrots, onions, golden and red beets, red cabbage, leeks.
