No, this is not a flower. In spite of looking at the ground for flowers, three times now I have nearly stepped on a snake, and was prevented from doing so by a fellow walker. Having grown up in rattlesnake country, I should be better at this. It is always a jolt to see any snake, but I scared this poor little garter snake more than he startled me.
