Soft Spring Apple Blossoms

I love blooming trees. On a recent holiday in Maui, I was astounded at the number and variety of blooming trees—African Tulip Tree, Jacaranda, Plumeria, and Hibiscus in particular caught my eye. Vibrant, large-scale pillars of colour.

Living in southern Alberta, our blooming trees are largely a spring phenomenon and my favourite is the apple tree in our back yard. The blossoms are soft white, with delicate pink tinges on the buds. The fragrance is heady, but not overpowering. For me they represent the promise of life and warmth after a winter of white and cold. Welcome, welcome.
