January Non-Fiction Book Recommendations

I am not a huge non-fiction reader, but I recently enjoyed these two non-fiction selections and wanted to share them with you.

“I Haven’t Been Completely Honest With You”

– Miranda Hart

I have enjoyed Miranda Hart on the “Call the Midwife” tv show and during interviews etc. and was interested to pick up her book. With her own style of humour, she describes her experiences through illness and wellness, wisdom from specialists, what she discovered about herself and what matters to her in life. I really enjoyed this book and will likely re-read it at some point.

The Secret Lives of Booksellers and LibrariansTrue Stories of the Magic of Reading

edited by James Patterson and Matt Eversmann

This book is a series of short recollections of booksellers and librarians that love connecting readers with the books that will light them up. It was compiled to support booksellers during the pandemic, and I enjoyed reading about the various people highlighted. I was astonished to find this book mentioned one of the booksellers from a local Calgary bookstore! He has helped me choose several books for my husband over the years.

“To be a bookseller or librarian…You have to play detective. Be a treasure hunter. A matchmaker. An advocate. A visionary. A person who created “book Joy” by pulling a book from a shelf, handling it to someone and saying, “You’e got to read this. You’re going to love it.”
