We do like peanut butter in our family. This is a simple square that can be whipped up in half an hour. I happen to think that peanut butter is happiest when combined with chocolate, but since not all the noshers in my family feel that way, I split the difference. Literally. The amounts for the chocolate and peanut butter spread listed below are sufficient to cover the entire square, but I reduce it by half to leave half of the square “unvarnished”. Do as you like…
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
Beat butter and peanut butter together. Beat in brown sugar, then add the eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour and salt and then stir them into the peanut butter mixture. Stir only until just combined to keep the square tender.
Grease a 9×9 pan and spread batter evenly into pan.
Bake at 350 for 20-22min. Cool a bit.
Melt together:
1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter
Spread over the top of the square. Cool completely and slice.
I think are on to something about the emotional state of peanut butter at the prospect of pairing up with chocolate!! Lovely!
